WHAT WE DO AT THE FUTURE FORESTS FUND

We are The Future Forests Fund - dedicated to combating the climate crisis through pioneering carbon removal projects. The Future Forests Fund (FFF) focuses on permanent forest ecosystem restoration, empowering rural communities to combat the effects of climate change, unlocking capital for climate action.


Bridging businesses to high-quality nature-based solutions to facilitate the permanent removal of carbon dioxide whilst restoring biodiversity and supporting local communities. FFF is at the forefront of developing carbon removal projects rooted in nature. With our unique project design to combine nature-based and tech-based removal to permanently restore ecosystems and help rural communities combat the effects of climate change through biochar adoption for smallholder farmers. 


Our projects are certified to the highest standards, creating tradable, high-quality carbon credits on the voluntary carbon market. 


One mission

The Future Forests Fund is a climate finance fund, with a clear mission: to deliver high-quality carbon solutions to businesses worldwide, enabling them to translate climate pledges into tangible, measurable action.

Alan Prouty CEO & Director

Alan Prouty is a resource economist with extensive experience the planning and development of rural development projects in Indonesia, Malaysia and Colombia. Alan’s professional experience includes assignments with the United Nations Development Program, the Asian Development Bank, USAID, the World Bank and the Peace Corps.  Alan’s special interests include: localizing the SDGs; climate action; poverty reduction; rural livelihoods development; and quantitative analysis of forestry programs.

Dick Prouty COO & Director

Alan Prouty CEO & Director

Dick Prouty is a senior leader and educational consultant with deep expertise in governance, leadership skills training, and consulting for organizational change. In his previous role as CEO of Project Adventure, Inc (PA), Dick was responsible for leading PA to be an international leader in adventure education. Dick served on the Board of Reforest the Tropics (RTT) from 2016 -2022, and developed the vision of bringing the research of RTT to scale through the Future Forest Fund. (FFF).

Richard Rheingans Director

Richard Rheingans Director

Richard was the Chair, Department of Sustainable Development, Appalachian State University, July 2016 – 2022. Currently, he is a professor in the department, focusing on his

previous interest in reforestation in Costa Rica. Richard has been widely published in peer reviewed journals on topics of water resources and forestry, some of which are from work funded by the Gates Foundation. He is excited to assist FFF advance its strategic plans using his technical experience in reforestation and water resources.

Hasbie Hasbillah - Director

Hasbie is the Executive Director of the Tropical Forest Foundation Indonesia.  Hasbie founded this organization in 2000 and has provided leadership to promote its growth to become a leader in the region in providing technical assistance to achieve a more sustainable pattern of forest management in Southeast Asia.

Gary Swisher - Director

Hasbie Hasbillah - Director

Since 2017 Gary has worked as the Project Director for the National Cooperative Business Association/ CLUSA International to manage a project to improve farmer livelihoods through value chain development in eastern Indonesia.

The project has had positive results in

improving the livelihoods of over 5,000 small farmers in Papua and North Maluku.

Maria Ljungbeck - Director

Ila Prouty is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art at Appalachian State University, where she teaches socially engaged art and leads the Semester at Penland  program. Ila’s skills in creating and building partnerships and her extensive curriculum development skills will be useful as we create a training center for hosting and building relationships worldwide with interested parties in the FFF model.

Maria currently runs her own communications agency and supports

small to medium-sized businesses on strategic sustainability communications and video production. Maria believes that effective communication is about creating connections and driving positive change. As a creative storyteller, Maria enjoys finding innovative ways to engage audiences through various channels and platforms.

Caspar Muir - Green Finance Specialist

Caspar Muir is our Green Finance Specialist, based in FFF’s new London  office. Caspar is passionate about unlocking the transformative  potential of the carbon markets to finance critically needed  nature-climate solutions in the fight against climate change.  He has a Master's degree from the University of Edinburgh and previous  experience of carbon projects in Costa Rica. He has a CFA ESG Investing  qualification.
